A Green Thumb After All...

Back in May, after an episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse where they planted tomato plants, the girls asked if we could plant tomatoes outside. After cursing the Disney Channel, I decided to give in and give it a shot.

Now, those of you know me, know that I do not do well with plants (hence the cursing at the Disney Channel). Plants that *should* live forever, die within weeks of my care. My dad, who once trusted me with a jade plant that had been in our family for YEARS can attest to this.

Despite my lack of a green thumb, however, I figured if we were planting one thing, we might as well plant a whole bunch of stuff.   If you're going to kill one thing, why not take out several plants, right?  So Steve and the girls helped me plant tomatoes, basil, green peppers, and cucumbers.

But low and behold...our garden is actually doing really well! The basil is fantastic, there are green tomatoes on vines that we are waiting to ripen, and I even have green peppers that are growing bigger by the day!  I think the secret to its success is that fact that I've been letting the kids be in charge of watering and wedding the garden.  I'm sure the garden appreciates me keeping my distance!

Isn't that such a cute little pepper?

As for my cucumbers...well...that is where my success story ends. But at least I'm not completely to blame for their demise. A certain four-legged, yellow lab at our house apparently has been occasionally munching on my cucumber leaves. She's not a tomato, basil, pepper kinda dog...but she sure loves her cucumbers!
