After lunch, it was time for the kids to nap and the adults to work around the house. At around 4:45, we packed up the car and hit the road again. Our first planned stop was part of a Mother's Day surprise and our second planned stop was at Joey's first birthday party.
But then, the "big bump" occurred.
It's amazing how quickly things can change in an instant. Instead of being on our way to create super cool Mother's Day gifts and enjoy a party, we found ourselves sitting in the middle of a four lane road in the midst of a car accident. With kids in the backseat chattering about the "big bump" they just felt. And a car that could not be driven. And policeman. And an ambulance. Don't forget the fire truck.
Fortunately, Steve, Maddie, Livie and I were all ok (if you ignore the nagging pain in my back). Although someone in the other car was taken away in an ambulance, everyone in their car ended up being ok as well. We certainly were lucky.
Although the people in our accident ended up faring relatively well, our car is another story. Olivia keeps asking us where the white car is, and then before waiting for us to answer, reminds us that, "The little guy's gonna fix our car. Make it feel all better". Don't ask who the "little guy" is that's going to fix it , because we certainly don't know! I'm just hoping the "little guy" can fix it faster than the 30 days I hear it might take before I get my car back.
The Murano that we will probably not be purchasing after all...
All in all, this was a huge reminder to us that life is a precious gift. In an instant, things can happen when you are least expecting them. I certainly have been hugging my husband and babies a little tighter every night, while thanking God for keeping us all safe. Life sure is a precious gift.
Don't forget to wear your seat belts!
