Let it Snow, Baby!

I like my job. I enjoy going to work each day and teaching the twenty four little people in my classroom.

But I LOVE snow days!

The beloved snow day...

As a child I can remember sitting next to the radio with my brother, listening to the list of school closings on a snowy morning. With our hearts beating quickly and our breaths held we'd listen.

"Lewiston-Porter, Newfane, Newport, Starpoint....STELLA NIAGARA"

In an instant our excitement would bubble over at the thought of getting a day off from school. It was, after all, the best gift a school kid could ask for.

As a child in school, I thought there couldn't possibly be ANYONE who was more excited about snow days than I was.

Then I started teaching.

At no point of my childhood did I ever realize that teachers got just excited about snow days as their students. Arguably more excited. Not that it's a competition or anything.

Seriously though. Teachers at my school have been talking about tonight's snowstorm since Monday. That's four days worth of talking and planning. Our school's official "Snow Day Predictor" (who has a pretty impressive record, I might add), started circulating emails at the beginning of the week letting us know about a possible snow day on Friday. She could feel it in her bones, she said.

As I sit here tonight, I'm not as optimistic about a snow day for tomorrow as I was earlier in the week. But it has been fun giggling and talking about it all week long. Planning for it, almost as though it were a given.

Glancing out the window, the snow is tapering to a near stop. Not exactly what THIS teacher was hoping for.

But, the girls and I flushed two ice cubes down the toliet before bedtime tonight. And did the incredibly official "Snow Day Dance". And I may or may not be sitting here wearing pajamas that are inside out and backwards.

A girl's gotta at least TRY!

Have a nice steamy cup of cocoa for me in the morning, and spend the day in your jammies. Although I'd turn them the right way first- I would hate for you to spend your snow day with a wedgie!!
