you have a 22 month old who is playing hooky. Geesh! This is stuff I didn't think I'd have to deal with for at least another several years!
Let me give you some background.
This past weekend, Madison was sick. She started throwing up at about 2:00 Sunday morning and didn't stop until almost 12 hours later. She spent the rest of Sunday in great spirits, but a little more tired than usual. Monday rolled around and she was completely fine and back to her old self. Virginia even said she was "good as gold" when I picked her up Monday afternoon (hmm...maybe not back to her old self after all...).
Tuesday morning brought more of the same. And Olivia didn't turn up sick as we were worried she might. Hot dog!
All was well until 12:00 when Virginia called me at school. Inside recess was a little on the loud side of life, so I didn't even hear the phone ring in my classroom...which prompted my principal, Jackie, to personally walk over to my classroom...to inform me that Madison had thrown up during lunch.
WHAT?!?!?!?
I frantically made arrangements to get coverage for my 3rd graders for the rest of the day and headed off to pick up my sick baby. Terrible flashbacks of a puke-filled night swirled in my head as I drove over to get her.
I made a quick decision to leave Olivia at Virgina's to finish her nap so I could give my sole and undivided attention to my patient. After quick goodbyes to Virginia and Mike, we were headed to the comfort of home.
And then, a miracle occurred. It was as if my sheer presence wiped away any trace of illness that Madison possessed. She chatted happily to me throughout our car ride home and balked at the suggestion of taking a nap upon our arrival. She was cute, smiley, and surprisingly energetic for someone who was supposedly sick.
Which has me thinking...perhaps a certain someone enjoyed the attention bestowed upon her during her weekend illness. So much, in fact, that playing hooky to get some quality, one-on-one time with mom seemed like an exceptional idea.
Seriously? What next?

Can't imagine that sweet, adorable child faking being sick to get her mom's undivided attention...
Although I have to say, she didn't sound sick to me when she was being so cute on the phone that afternoon!
